Malux continues its journey in safe hands
Challenge
Malux is a Northern Swedish company headquartered in Örnsköldsvik that has been delivering technical solutions for a safer working environment since its founding in 1972. Jörgen Schulze, who acquired all shares in the company a few years after starting to work with his father in the late 1970s, had developed the company from five to 90 employees and built a group of companies, JS Companies AB, of which Malux is the largest group consisting of five companies. The decision to sell Malux matured over time but was made final when Jörgen turned 65. It was bittersweet since it was his father who started the company, but both his children had their own careers to pursue, so there was no one to take over.
It feels wonderful. Tången looks after Malux just as much as I always have. It's reassuring for me, and all employees have been very positive about the new owner. — Jörgen Schulze, former owner of Malux
Grant Thornton delivered in accordance with what we at Malux stand for: reliability, credibility and accessibility. I want to give great praise to how everyone who worked on this deal stepped up and was always there, whether it was weekends or late evenings. It is very much thanks to these people that we have been able to complete this sale in such a good way. — Jörgen Schulze
Solution
After a few months of deliberation, Jörgen Schulze realised that he needed an independent party to support him in the sale. He already had a contact at Grant Thornton and once he understood how the company worked, he decided to proceed with them. Grant Thornton and their M&A division acted as financial advisors in the process. The entire process from when Jörgen Schulze decided to engage Grant Thornton until the sale was complete took approximately six months. Grant Thornton had a thorough and well-developed process that involved extensive paperwork and material gathering. Jörgen Schulze was praised for having good order in the company, and Grant Thornton was good at keeping him informed, met the timeline and delivered as expected. After careful evaluation, the choice fell on Tången Industrikapital as the buyer. After the sale, Jörgen Schulze bought in as a co-owner of Tången and continues as a senior advisor at Malux.
