Challenge
Founded in 1975, TUMI takes its name from a Peruvian icon known to its founder from his Peace Corps days in South America. During the 1980's, TUMI's innovative introduction of soft, ultra-functional, black-on-black ballistic nylon travel bags catapulted the company to its current leadership position. TUMI needed to expand its operations across multiple European markets and establish a presence for stores, outlets, wholesale operations, and e-commerce. The company needed to work with professional service providers in multiple countries to handle entity setup, banking and insurance arrangements, hiring and labour contracts, accounting, year-end closing according to US retail calendar (5-4-4), VAT and corporate tax filing, and all other administrative requirements to run stores, outlets and wholesale operations in these markets.
HLB member firms have always been prompt, reliable, friendly and all have partners with very good English. This is a great team for difficult and time critical projects! We have worked with HLB members for more than 10 years now. We have relationships with firms HLB Spain, HLB Italy, HLB France, HLB Germany and HLB Ireland. We've engaged the HLB firms to help us with a number of services. These have included setting up the entity, establishing bank and insurances, hiring, labour contracts, accounting, year-end closing according to US retail calendar (5-4-4-), VAT and cooperate tax filing (in conjunction with Deloitte for US-GAAP) and all the other administrative stuff to run a stores, outlets and wholesale in these markets. With HLB Germany we established an entity which allowed us to do Ecommerce all over Europe. We test the shipping and return process with the help of HLB firms in 17 European countries. HLB member firms have helped us with all the administrative stuff to set up and run stores, outlets, wholesale and Ecommerce. — Stefan Schweizer, TUMI
