Challenge

Oxford Learning is a franchise-based tutoring company that gives each location owner the opportunity to have their own business in an area they're passionate about. Centre Directors like Sarah Fretz of the Cambridge, Ontario location and Zain Hansraj of the Waterloo, Ontario location had built their careers around education, certifying as teachers and caring deeply about empowering future generations of learners. As franchise owners, they needed to manage payroll for their small teams of typically less than 10 employees who were often a mix of part-time, full-time, and contract workers. When Sarah first started, she inherited a bunch of tools and processes for managing back-office functions and had to sort through them to figure out what worked best for her.

When I first started, I literally inherited a bunch of tools and processes for managing back-office functions. I had to sort through them and figure out what worked best for me. I choose Wagepoint as my payroll software because when I took a quick look, it was easy to use and understand and much less overwhelming than other applications. My tutors do crucial work and it's crucial that I get their payroll right. — Sarah Fretz, Centre Director, Cambridge, Ontario

Wagepoint gives us a lot of value. In addition to providing our annual T4s and T4As, they also take care of helping us stay on top of our CRA source deductions and remittances. We're a small business with five to six part-time employees and Wagepoint is definitely a great alternative to doing it yourself. — Zain Hansraj, Centre Director, Waterloo, Ontario

Oxford Learning Wagepoint

Solution

Both Sarah and Zain chose to adopt Wagepoint as their small business payroll software when they purchased their previously established franchises. Wagepoint was easy to use and understand and much less overwhelming than other applications. The software was designed to be ideal for businesses like Oxford Learning with less than 10 employees who are often a mix of part-time, full-time and contract workers. Wagepoint's world-class Customer Support Team was available whenever a question or concern arose. The platform provided automated payroll processing, CRA source deductions and remittances management, and annual T4s and T4As generation.

Results

Wagepoint gave the Oxford Learning centres a lot of value by providing annual T4s and T4As, taking care of CRA source deductions and remittances, and automating the payroll process. For Zain's experience, making the switch to Wagepoint back in 2017 was very straightforward, and since then, she and her team have grown to appreciate the value of having their payroll automated. With five to six part-time employees, Wagepoint proved to be a great alternative to doing payroll manually.
